I can't stop listening to...Ryan Gosling?

Evidently Halloween is a big deal in San Francisco. Like a really big deal. So, here is a Halloween-themed song that is currently on repeat - Its called my body's a zombie for you. The weird part is that its from Ryan Gosling's band, Dead Man Bones - I'd say its his best work since Fractured, which is highly underrated. I love this song like McAdams loves Gosling.

I can't stop listening to..... E-603

It's Halloween, which means house parties. Inevitably, Girl Talk is going to find its way onto a playlist somewhere, and as much I love Greg Gillis, shit is played. Enter Ethan Ward, otherwise known as E-603. Like Gillis, he offered his last album for free but for whatever reason, people are still sleeping on this guy. Check out the link for the free download. I can't stop reading. . . .Machine Man

I love the author Max Barry (he's written Jennifer Government, Syrup and Company). His books are quick-reads, but I find them not only entertaining but insightful looks at the effects that corporations have on our lives

He just started an interesting project called Machine Man. Its his new book, but he is writing it in a very different way - he is writing a page a day, and then sharing that page with the readers via email. So, basically everyday you open your email and there is a new page in this book. Its an interesting way to read a book - and unlike all of those daily emails from Barack, I actually read these. His blog is also interesting and includes information about the process of writing in general and how writing this book is different than his other projects.

Anyway, I cant stop reading this new book and his comments about it. You can sign up to get the first 46 pages free, then its like 5 bucks or something to continue if you are enjoying. (Also, if you haven't read any of his other stuff, check out Jennifer Government - truly a great read).

I can't stop hating ..... on Ed Hardy

Hilarious story about the "genious" behind the Ed Hardy phenomenon. After reading this, I now at least have some idea as to what kind of person could possibly design such crap. As to what possesses a person to pay $100 for one of these, well, as the Owl from the Tootsie Pop commercials used to say, "the world may never know..."

I can't stop...watching Modern Family

For music, links are easy enough - click the music and you either like it or hate it. For other stuff I think a little more context may be needed to explain the current addiction. This show is funny - and it should have a broad appeal because its funny in a lot of different ways, which most sitcoms cannot pull off or do not even attempt. Its drawing comparisons to Arrested Development - which is understandable as there are a lot of similarities - but to me its more approachable than Arrested Development, which often felt like one huge inside joke. Anyway, Modern Family is really worth watching and all of the eps are online at ABC. And it has Julie Bowen, who has been in the running for future Mrs. Kaplan since her days on Boston Legal. Here is a scene with Ms. Bowen and her absurd husband, who basically is Josh in 10 plus years.

I can't stop listening to..... Florence and the Machine

So music posts here will pretty much run the gamut from older stuff that I haven't listened to for a while, to stuff that's on the newer end of the spectrum. I'm not going to play the role of music critic for two reasons. Reason the first, I would suck at it - I have a complete inability to describe music in any kind of critical way... I either like it or I don't. Reason the second, I'd rather you form your own opinion. If you're too lazy to listen to a few songs with the click of a mouse, I'm not sure why you're wasting your time reading anything on this fledgling blog anyway.

I can't stop proving these haters wrong

For those that know me, the notion of a blog is something that I have brought up on more than one occasion - but I never started one because, well…I’m lazy (which will probably become a dominant theme of my posts – or lack thereof). Knowing me as they do, whenever the notion of a blog was brought up, the haters in my life (who double as my closest friends) told me it wouldn’t happen – so to all of my friends out there I say look at me shine now.

Anyway, I’ll keep this brief. Josh is feeling lonely, so he wants to reach out to all of you out the interweb to partake in some sort of dialogue. I want to use this blog as a vehicle for affirmation - I’m an insecure, self-doubting, unemployed, law school grad who may have some extra time on his hands and just wants the approval of his peers. Is that cool with you?

I think I have refined tastes in music, movies, TV shows and an uncanny sense for justice in all of its various forms. And yes, I believe I will marry Taylor Swift (or taylorswift13 for those of us in the know) once she converts to Judaism for me and allows my dog to act as the ring bearer in our wedding. (This all becomes moot if Kim from Matt and Kim becomes available and I can find a court to enforce the contract she signed on a poster stating that she was my future wife).

Beyond that – I thank the Birdman for putting this together, though Josh should probably be thanking me, as I’d say the over/under on the amount of media he consumes as a result of my suggestion is at 70%.

(Josh, the answers to your questions are: I’d pay $250 for him to smack a person of my choosing, $300 if that person was on my top 5 most hated list or has ever made an appearance on that list and $350 if it was you. And Guy Fiery is an okay choice, but seeing him hit Tom Brady on his restructured knee would be amazing – as would seeing him hit Rush Laimbaugh so hard that he had to start a cycle of pain killers that resulted in his re-addiction).

I can't stop ..... being silent - Poppin' this blog's cherry like the Birdman pops champagne

First things first, I don't have a good answer as to what motivated me to do this.  Typically, I've told people that it was out of sheer boredom, but that answer isn't particularly satisfying either for me or for whomever I'm talking with.  I guess on some level I have a vision for it, douchey as that sounds.  Ideally, I'd like for it to be a place where music, TV/movies, restaurants, articles and books, travel, and whatever else is good in life is bounced around amongst friends.  The idea is to post stuff that I can't stop doing: listening, reading, watching, eating, etc...  Ideally, this isn't a one-way street and people can give both feedback and suggestions.

That's not to say that I take this too seriously.  Another reason I decided to do this is now that I'm out of school and also roommate-less, I no longer have an audience for all the stupid shit that I used to enjoy debating.  For instance, I spent half of my train commute the other day thinking about how much I would pay to have that Scottish guy from the Castrol commercials to go around whacking people with that dipstick and uttering his catch phrase.  The other half was spent thinking about how much more I'd pay for the dipstick to be covered in oil and who I'd most like to see whacked first (conclusion: Guy Fieri during one of his "lectures").  Times were, such a thought could start a solid 20 minute discussion.  These days, I'm left to keep it to myself or gchat it.  Dire.  So this blog also gives me a pulpit with which to throw such thoughts to the masses (read: 5 or 6 people).

Finally, I recruited someone to start on this venture with me: the only person I know more bored, and more of a hater than myself, my buddy Mike from law school.  My hope is that he doesn't spam the blog with posts like "I can't stop.... telling my dog that he is a good boy" and instead contributes meaningfully to something for what may be the first time in his life aside from saving his dog Trotsky.  In all seriousness, Mike can hold an inane discussion better than almost anyone I know, and aside from his undying adulation for all things Taylor Swift, has great taste in music.  So from the minds of two bored lawyers in their mid-twenties with an unhealthy obsession with "2Pac's Hit 'em Up",  I give you "Can't stop, won't stop...." (at least until we think of a better title.)
